Friday Favorites: Lucky Finds

Friday, January 25, 2019

It's already Friday?

I should be happy, but this week was one where I could never seem to make a real dent in the to-do list. Do you have days, weeks (hell, months) like that too? In any case, I didn't want to head into the weekend without checking in one more time here.

Speaking of the weekend, any fun plans? Tomorrow I'm meeting a girlfriend who I haven't seen in a long time for brunch, which I'm really looking forward to, and then racing home to take C to a classmate's birthday party. We have a birthday party on the schedule each weekend for at least the next month -- I guess January and February are popular times to have babies! But, hey, we're all about celebrating. :)

On Sunday I plan to pick up groceries for the week and maybe take C rollerskating for the first time. We plan to go iceskating too at some point this winter, but I thought it might be fun to try rollerskating since she's never been. We'll see where we end up!

On to a few favorites on this sunny Friday:

-World Market has all their holiday marked to 79 cents. I am not too far past Christmas (believe me) to want all of the things! Like this, this, and this.

-Have any of you tried Rothy's shoes? They are apparently super comfortable (I would hope so with that price tag!), but what I love is that they are actually made from recycled plastic. To date, they've taken 20 million plastic water bottles that would have been in a land fill and turned them into cute shoes!

-I am going to take a brush lettering class (two of them, actually!) and I'm super excited. It feels indulgent to spend money on an "activity" for myself, but it's something I've wanted to do for a long time and I'm excited to try it. Maybe I'll even make some art prints or something using what I learn -- you guys know I love my "pretty words." :)

-April at Smidge of This, who has been through an awful lot and is one of the most inspirational and strong women I've come across, wrote a letter to 2019 on her blog this week and it will put everything into perspective for you. I pray this year is gentle on her family, and full of joy.

-Speaking of posts worth reading, this post by Joanna Goddard (Cup of Jo) is everything. I have long struggled with anxiety at the thought of death, probably earlier than most due to my loss of a parent as a little girl. I felt understood reading this.

-Ending on a light note, C made this craft in preschool the other week and we just brought it home to hang up. They tied this activity into MLK day, and I thought it was just a really sweet and simple thing to do.

Wishing you a cozy weekend!

  1. Happy Friday! I am also having a week where I feel like I've accomplished nothing but - there's always next week! Rollerskating for the first time sounds so fun - I loved rollerskating as a child. I hope she has the best time!

    1. This is our week, friend! I hope you had a productive-ish weekend. :) I did too and it's been forever since I've gone -- I don't think I'll be any help, haha!

    1. Me too! Everyone raves about how comfortable they are and I really do love the concept but, yeah, the price tag is steep! I wonder how they wear/how long they last... that could help make a case for them. ;)

    1. Me too! Everyone talks about how you can walk all day in them. They seem ideal for mommas on the move! I'm so jealous you have a World Market store close to you. I'm forced to browse online. ;) Happy Sunday!

  4. I absolutely have days like that too - then all of a sudden something will shift and you will plough through it all, or at least make a dent. It sounds like you had much more fun plans anyway with brunch! A brush lettering class sounds fun - what are you hoping to make once you've learned it? J xx

    1. Yes! Or feel extra motivated in the days following, which is what happened this weekend. I'm so excited for the brush lettering class -- it's something I've always wanted to learn. I love handwriting and tried to dabble in calligraphy a long time ago but I'd love to learn some official techniques. I also love quotes/empowering words, as you know, so I'd love to try to use the brush lettering on some paper for art prints or maybe even mugs/plates, that kind of thing. :)
