Five on Friday: Read, Watched, Worn, Made & Bought

Friday, October 5, 2018

It's the freakin' weekend, folks! Throwback to that R. Kelly song from I-forget-when-but-a-long-time-ago. Anyway! I watched Steel Magnolias for the first time this week (which also happens to be one of my five things today!), so I'm going to say "y'all" throughout this post -- be warned. So what are y'all up to this weekend? Tomorrow we're having our annual pumpkin patch date with some friends (hey, Moyers!), which has evolved from going on haunted hayrides as newlyweds to now toting 6 children between us to the farm. Life is crazy!

For today's Five on Friday, I thought it would be fun to shake things up and share what I've read, watched, worn, made, and bought this week.

1. Read. First, I finished reading The Couple Next Door, which was a good thriller. I jotted down a few novels I want to dive into next, but right now I'm slowly reading Girl, Wash Your Face (as is your friend, sister, mom, and dog). I also read this little piece of wisdom in one of my magazines this week, which I shared on IG stories:

I love this not only because I think it makes perfect, healthy sense for our kids, but I think it also makes perfect, healthy sense for us as their parents. There is just so much pressure on parents these days (and don't get me wrong - our kids are worth our best selves!), but I believe applying the wisdom above is something that every parent can easily do and it will benefit all parties.

2. Watched. Yep, I watched Steel Magnolias for the first time. I loved it! So touching and full of great one-liners. Naturally, I cried. And Dolly Parton's character? In love. I can't believe I had never seen it. Have you?

3. Worn. I wore this green vest to the fair last Friday, and I just know I'm going to wear it all fall. I love vests! Also, you know how I've shared about my Wit & Wisdom "Ab-solution" jeans before? If you see me in real life, chances are I have shown you the hidden stretchy waist band (no shame). They're normally $68, but I got my pair for $42 or something like that during Nordstrom's anniversary sale last year. WELL, friends. I found a DUPE pair, also with a hidden stretchy waistband, by Democracy at my local TJ Maxx for less than $30 -- and I found them for you right here! They are amazing.

4. Made. This week we had our favorite chicken enchilada soup. It is probably the easiest crockpot recipe ever -- you dump the ingredients and cook. And it's so good! Here's the recipe if you want to try it. I also had a craving for nachos, so I made chicken nachos for the first time on Monday, and I must say... they didn't disappoint. I just layered chips, rotisserie chicken, pinto beans, cheese, diced onion, and diced green chiles on a baking sheet and baked for about 20 minutes on 350. While they were still hot, I squeezed fresh lime juice on them and then topped them with a drizzle of taco sauce.

5. Bought. It seems like every store had an amazing sale this week, so I had to throw the blinders on (because, you know, the mortgage). But C was in need of a cute picture day top, so I snagged this one at J.Crew for less than $14. I think we'll pair it with navy leggings.

And that's a wrap! Would love to hear what y'all have watched, read, worn, made, and bought lately. ;) Have a fun weekend!

  3. I like the set up of this post!!! I just got Girl, Wash Your Face from the library (after literal months of waiting, haha), so I am excited to dive into it. I grew up watching Steel Magnolias with my cousins (thank and Dirty Dancing), although I could definitely use a refresher! Gotta love a good crockpot soup - think I need to try that.

  5. I keep hearing good things about "The Couple Next Door". I need to add it to my TBR list.
My daughter, Shelby (age 24) is actually named after the character that Julia Roberts plays in Steel Magnolias.
