Every year, for 15 years, Steve and I have gone to the same beach together. We started going when we were teenagers because his friend's family had a beach house there, and then we just never stopped. Now it's one of my favorite places in the world for many reasons (and, lucky me, it's only about an hour away!). We've wrangled our entire families into coming and the girls love it now, too. Funny story: for my 17th birthday Steve bought me a jean jacket from a shop there, and it is still my only jean jacket and I wear it all the time. It's one of those things that the older it gets, the better it gets. Hopefully like me - ha!
Are you taking a vacation this summer? Apparently, Americans are terrible at taking time off -- rates of people using their vacation time have been steadily declining for years. I understand that everyone's circumstances are different but, by God, if you have the paid time to take, take it!
Hoping to inspire you a bit, I'm sharing some affordable vacation looks. Now: get going!
Vacation Style: Accessories (From $7 - $33)
Blue Slides // Hair Wrap // Resin Earrings
Beach Towel // Cork Sandals // Sarong Cover Up
I picked up a hair wrap similar to the one above from H&M for $6 -- as a mom on the run, my hair is thrown up 98% of the time so adding a cute/functional hair wrap is right up my alley. I don't have that exact sarong (also from H&M) but I've been known to bring a lightweight scarf or two and use it as a cover up at the beach. Speaking of H&M, did you know they have a home line now? I. love. everything. Seriously -- check it out. They have everything from bath towels to decor to kids' room stuff and it is all extremely affordable and SO fun and unique.
If you could take a vacation anywhere, where would it be?

I cant wait to see how you style the hair wrap - so great for a beach vacation! I actually did know that fact about americans not being good at taking all their vacation time - we should be better LOL!
ReplyDeleteIt really is the perfect little accessory -- and our beach vacation is in about two weeks so I'll definitely let you know! Isn't that so sad? Why do we do this to ourselves?! We'd all be so much better off if we enjoyed that time away. :)
DeleteGosh these are really stylish pieces - like Biana I would love to see what you do with the hair wrap - it could give me the confidence to try some new things :) LOVE the earrings.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm so glad you like them too! I figured since my hair is thrown up almost all the time, I might as well make it look as "done" as possible. ;)
DeleteOh - I read your post this morning and spent my whole car journey to work thinking about the where would you travel to question. Andy and I do ask ourselves this a lot as we have dreams of setting off to the airport with just a backpack, looking at the board, picking a destination and just buying a ticket and going. For me, it depends on the time of year. Right now in spring I think my top pic would either be full on adventure - such as a the Orient Express through Asia (if without Caspar) or if WITH then Capri - the fresh food, fresh fish, the twinkling blue sea, the wine, the shops (cool shoes and linen ahoy). I need to stop this now before I get carried away! ;)
ReplyDeleteOhhhh the arriving at the airport and picking a destination is truly like a dream scenario, isn't it? I love that as a bucket list item (and I love your destination choices!). It seems you've already done a good amount of traveling. I'd love to do more. :)
DeleteI haven't taken time off from work since November. Why you ask? Well first being that at my company you accrue time off. Second, I have a flexible work schedule where I can work remotely as needed so NO need to waste my time off if I don't need to. Third, when I take trips I like to take long trips hence the trip in November being almost 2.5 weeks long and I spent time in London and the Cotswolds (where my auntie lives and owns/lets an AirBnB - where we stayed). Would I change it? No, way. I don't love the beach and I won't just take a day off to spend at home. Thoughts?
ReplyDeleteWow, your 2.5 weeks in London and the Cotswolds sounds incredible! I'm with you -- I work remotely, as well, so when I take vacation time it's truly VACATION time. I don't necessarily think it's the quantity but the quality of vacation time. Too many people I know take none at all!
