Five on Friday

Friday, May 4, 2018

Happy Friday!

What are your weekend plans? Tomorrow I'm headed to a sprinkle for my friend who is expecting twins in a couple of months! Sunday I'm hoping to catch up on house/yard stuff and we might take the girls to a local restaurant that teaches kids country line dancing. ;) Should be interesting and fun!

1. My new favorite makeup product. I ordered this under eye concealer/illuminator when it was on sale a few weeks ago and after regular use I can tell you that I love it. I had been completely out of concealer for a couple of weeks and the under eye circle game was strong. A few people have actually commented on my skin since I started using it... it just makes me look so much more refreshed than I actually am! Haha

2. Advice that really hit home with me. I recently read this post on one of my very favorite blogs, Cup of Jo, and it really resonated with me and the season of life that I'm in with the girls. After a trying few weeks with Carrie (just typical four year old troubles, but challenging nevertheless!), we seem to be on the upswing, but I realized a lot about myself and my parenting during those weeks. I plan to do a whole post on it, actually, because I know so many mommas (and dads) in the same season. But if you're looking for a little parenting inspiration, check out the post.

3. A new book. I can't remember the last time I read a book the entire way through. Isn't that the saddest? I mean, I read Emily Ley's A Simplified Life after Christmas but that's more of a quick read/workbook. I haven't been engulfed in a good story in a long time. So the other night at Target I picked up The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware and I can't wait to start reading it tonight. I know a lot of people who have read this one -- have you? If so, did you enjoy it? Any other book recommendations?

4. Pretty signs. I just discovered this company that makes amazing, personalized wood (and some other materials, like metal and chalkboard too) signs called Sincere Surroundings. I bought a sign from a local shop but loved browsing their online catalog. Check it out here. I need the no soliciting sign on page 34. ;)

5. Have a wonderful weekend!

Spring & Summer Wardrobe Updates

Thursday, May 3, 2018

I'm really excited for today's post because 1. I love shopping 2. I love spring and summer. A friend, former colleague, and new momma (hi Elizabeth!) recently asked to see a clothing post -- she said she's been really into browsing clothes online since having her baby, and I totally identify with that. After having each of the girls, my clothes just didn't fit the same way. Some were too big and baggy in certain places, some were too tight in others, and I just didn't feel like me. Refreshing my wardrobe (I'm guessing many of you are like me and have had many of your tops, bottoms, and shoes for years and years...even decades) made me feel sort of refreshed as Jen, too, if that makes sense.

With that said, I've rounded up my favorite spring and summer finds for you! Also sharing some photos of a couple of new pieces that have come home with me -- apologies in advance for any awkwardness, crazy hair, weird lighting/background -- I had to snap these quickly when I had a few rare minutes to myself. Bonus: nothing except the cross-body bag is over $100 -- not even those pretty dresses perfect for warm weather weddings. ;) And the cross-body bag is worth it, trust me.

The wedges of the season (reviews say they're very comfy!).

I always like something a little different. How cute are these block heel sandals? In love.

Give me all of the chambray (especially with white jeans/shorts) -- love that you can dress this cute top up or down.

I'm really feeling the cute shape of this dress and it's another item that could be dressed up or down. AND with the black and white, you could pair it with any color shoes/accessories for different looks. I tried on this similar-style gingham maxi in Old Navy and loved that it was a good length for shorter girls.

A comfy, striped top that you'll wear all the time. For $10. (Also comes in grey and a bunch of other cute patterns)

I've had this cross-body bag in a blush color for years and still use it almost every single time I go out without the girls (because otherwise everything gets stuffed in the diaper bag!). You can have your initials embossed in gold on the front to personalize it. And it's on sale! Love the navy as a neutral in the summer.

How pretty are the colors on this dress for a bridal or baby shower, or any other summer event? I love everything by this designer (check out the rain boots).

Soft simplicity on this soft blue number. Doesn't it look as comfortable as it is pretty?

These ocean blue raffia slides are sold out at the moment, but keep checking back if you like them. I love them, and really love these similar ones too (available in all sizes).

Love this cold shoulder top (my favorite style because you can still wear a regular bra - yay!) to dress up or down.

Super casual summer look (aka what you will find me wearing almost every day!) -- this is the softest t-shirt I've ever owned. It has "don't worry, be happy" embroidered on it. ;)

Comfy yet cute -- blush pink striped shirt can be found here, shorts here (they have a drawstring waist) and $2.50 blush flip flops here!

I'm a sucker for a comfy tee that feels like you've had it for years -- this one was under $10 and says "whatever floats your boat." I picture it with white or regular jean shorts.

An off the shoulder style that actually stays off the shoulder. Sign me up!

Your average tee made above average by a linen texture and pretty color.

A few additional picks:

This rainbow embroidered tank.

More raffia sandals that I love & these cork sandals (they'd go with everything!).

If you want to try the romper trend: love this and this. Oh, and also this.

The perfect beach cover up (and this one cracks me up, I kind of love it).
